What is Voacanga?
The tropical voacanga is a small perennial tree with white or yellow flowers. In Africa, the bark of the roots and seeds of voacanga are consumed as a stimulant and aphrodisiac, but also as a trip drug.
- Contains the constituents voacangine, voacamine, vobtusine, amataine, akuammidine, tabersonine and coronaridine.
Usage, dosage and effects of Voacanga
Voacanga resembles in its effects the now banned iboga. You can chew the seeds for a psychedelic effect. This rootbark is very suitable to make a tea of. Our advice is to keep the dosage of voacanga low. Higher doses have nasty side effects like nausea and vomiting.
Light dose of Voacanga
10 seeds or 5 grams of rootbark is a light dose. You will feel somewhat more energetic and it seems as if everything is more intense on your retina.
Normal dose Voacanga
35-50 seeds or 10-15 grams of rootbark is a normal dose from which you can get a boost of energy and probably end up in a trance-like state. We say probably, because it depends a lot on your build, what and if you ate before and where you are at that moment. In addition, the seeds are a natural product, so not every seed contains a measured amount of active substances.
About 20 minutes after ingestion you can expect an emotional release. You can see shapes and colours in the corners of your eyes from this dose. In the dark figures can appear, as is the case with a light dose of LSD or Magic Truffles.
High dose Voacanga
At 30 grams of rootbark or 100 seeds your experience becomes a different story. Such a strong tea is in any case not tasty, but the effect is of course much stronger. Arms and legs can feel lame and every now and then your sight can fade away, alternated with strong visuals. A high dose of voacanga can therefore be quite exciting - certainly not for inexperienced psychonauts!
Voacanga as dream herb
A less common application is to take Voacanga just before going to sleep. This will give you very powerful dreams that can feel like a spiritual journey. A medium-light dose of 5 grams of root bark or 10 seeds is enough. Voacanga before bedtime can also help you achieve lucid dreams, but this requires some training.
