The monstrosus mutation causes the cactus to have no spines, as well as being very particular in shape. You buy a cut piece of San Pedro cactus. All you have to do is peel and cut the cactus. Then the psychedelic mescaline trip can begin. For a strong trip, you need 300 to 400 mg of mescaline. About 150-200 grams of fresh San Pedro is enough for that. You can also choose to put the cutting in a pot with soil in order to let it grow easily. Note that the shape, size and weight may vary. After all, it is a natural product.

Buy San Pedro Cactus

The San Pedro Cactus is native to South American countries such as Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru. Here it grows in the high Andes Mountains and was used for shamanistic and religious purposes. The mescaline in the cactus can cause intense trip effects such as hallucinations and imaginations of reality. The effects are similar to those of LSD, magic mushrooms and magic truffles, but definitely have a character of their own.

You can grow a mescaline cactus such as the San Pedro, Peyote or Peruvian Torch yourself from a seed. However, it takes a very long time before you have enough usable mescaline cactus. Nevertheless, the San Pedro cactus is one of the fastest growing species. A San Pedro with the monstrosus mutation may grow slightly slower in length, but more in width and can still grow 10 to 30 centimeters per year. So it takes quite a long time before you have enough mescaline for a trip. That's why it's better to buy these ready-made cuttings of the San Pedro cactus.

Mescaline Cactus

These cacti naturally contain the psychoactive compound mescaline. This compound does occur in a slightly different form than pure mescaline. Therefore, you need a large amount of peyote, san pedro or Peruvian Torch to get the same effect as chemically prepared pure mescaline. On the other hand, of course, you can trip like no other on something that occurs naturally. The effect can be compared to a trip on magic mushrooms, ayahuasca or LSD, but the trip usually lasts longer and the nuances are definitely unique. The effect begins 45 to 90 minutes after ingestion. This is often accompanied by tasting the sour taste of the cactus one more time. In other words, vomiting. According to the shaman and the medicine man, this is all part of it. The peak takes place between four and six hours after eating the cactus and the total trip lasts 6 to 14 hours.

San Pedro Cactus Preparation

You can eat the cuttings of this San Pedro mescaline cactus. No spines grow on the monstrosus San Pedro's. Peel the cactus all around. The leathery skin is difficult to digest. After this, the San Pedro is ready for use and you can experience a violent trip. However, the mescaline cactus is usually not eaten raw. Often mescaline powder or tea is made from these San Pedro cuttings. Instructions for preparing the San Pedro cactus can be found in our blogs.

Mescaline Dosage

The amount of mescaline in a San Pedro cactus can vary tremendously. Keep in mind that a 100 gram piece of fresh San Pedro cactus contains on average 50-120 mg of mescaline. It is important that you take the right dosage. Below you will find the correct mescaline dosage.

  • 150 mg - light trip - minimal noticeable effect
  • 150 to 300 mg - light to medium trip
  • 300 - 400 mg - strong trip - can last 6 to 14 hours
  • 450 - 500 mg - very strong trip - can last 6 to 14 hours
  • 500 - 600 mg - very heavy trip (advanced only) can last up to 24 hours

Cactus Storage, Drying and/or Replanting

San Pedro's, Peruvian Torches and some other mescaline containing cacti are fast growing cacti. And since 150-200 grams of fresh San Pedro is already enough for a strong mescaline trip, you will soon have a stem (cutting or torch) left over. You do need to take good care of the cutting wound if you want to use the cactus again later. Cut only with a clean, very sharp knife. It is best to hold the knife in a flame for a while. Over the gas stove or through a lighter with a blue flame, your knife will be disinfected in no time. Let your knife cool down before cutting. This will prevent infections on the stem you have left.

Store outside the refrigerator

You can store such a cutting once cut for up to 3 months. Roll that log in a few layers of kitchen paper and store it in a kitchen cabinet out of reach of children and pets. Storing in the refrigerator is not recommended, as the relative humidity is often too high.

Drying

By storing the cactus as above, it already loses moisture. The cactus can then be used immediately or replanted. However, do you want to get it bone dry? Then you should keep in mind that you cannot replant it afterwards. Drying has the advantage that the concentration of mescaline increases per gram of cactus, so you need to take less for the same effect. Make very small pieces. The smaller, the better they can dry. Place the pieces scattered on kitchen paper on a large baking dish or plate. Place a cup in the center and hang a clean dry tea towel over it. Place the dish or plate out of reach of children or pets. Change the kitchen towel daily. Within 5-7 days, your cactus pieces will be dried out. Then you can store them in a grip bag. Preferably with a bag of silica gel (don't worry; these are not toxic, as long as you don't eat the bag itself).

San Pedro and other mescaline cacti cuttings (replanting)

If you want to replant/cultivate San Pedro, Peruvian Torch or other cacti*, you can follow the following steps *instructions do not apply to peyote cacti. Prefer to use a whole cactus (button) at once for this purpose.

  1. Cactus recently cut off? Dab gently with a little kitchen paper on the wounds of the mother plant and the cutting to absorb most of the wound fluid. Then place the cutting in a warm and dry place with indirect light, where it is maximum 25 °C. Note: not in the sun!
  2. Before you can start cutting the cactus, the wound must be well dried. How long this takes depends on the size of the wound. Long cuttings with a small wound are ideal. Leave the cutting for at least a week and then check that it is thoroughly dry.
  3. Do you see dots or spots on the wound of the cactus? If so, the wound may be infected. Cut off a 0.5-centimeter piece and try to let the wound dry better.
  4. Fill a pot with holes at the bottom with a mixture of sand and potting soil. This combination is needed for drainage. Place the dried cutting in the center of the pot, about 3 inches deep. Put the cactus cutting back in a warm place out of direct sunlight. Just like the mother plant.
  5. Wait until the plant has rooted (takes about 3 to 6 weeks) and only then give small bits of water. If the cutting went well, you can give it more water and light over time.
