Psilocybe azurescens
In 1995, Paul Stamets and Jochen Gartz described a newly discovered species found mainly in the temperate rainforests of the US West Coast. When they sent some samples for analysis, the results were astonishing: 1.8% psilocybin, 0.5% psilocin, and 0.4% baeocystin in dried mushrooms. Azurescens, named after the azure-blue bruising of the mushroom when picked or damaged, holds the world record for the strongest mushroom species.
The strongest magic mushrooms
On average, Psilocybe azurescens mushrooms are up to twice as strong as Cubensis strains like Golden Teachers, McKennaii, or B+. In addition to adjusting your dosage accordingly, prepare for a phenomenon known as Woodlover’s Paralysis. This can feel like an extreme heaviness, similar to the couch-lock from a strong indica strain. This paralysis might be linked to compounds produced by these mushrooms that grow on hardwood instead of other substrates.

Drying and storing Azurescens
In theory, you can store dried mushrooms for months as described in our blog. However, since Azurescens are grown outdoors, they are exposed to the elements. This increases the risk of contamination. If mold appears, discard them immediately.
Consuming and dosing Azurescens
Due to their high psilocybin content, exact dosages are challenging to determine. The rule of thumb: start low and increase gradually. Azurescens can be up to twice as potent as Golden Teachers.
