What is Mexican tarragon?
Tarragon is a commonly used herb in the kitchen and it shouldn’t be confused with Mexican tarragon (Tagetes lucida). It was used by the Aztecs as incense in a ritual that was called yyauhtl . The Huichol tribe still use it for stimulating visions. Mexican tarragon grows in the Sierra Madre mountain range in Mexico and tastes somewhat like aniseed and liquorice.
Effects of Mexican tarragon
There is a wide range of applications for Mexican tarragon. The herb is used for calming the stomach and relaxing muscles or for dealing with a hangover.
Little is known about the hallucinatory effects, partly because they are very mild and not to be compared, for example, with shrooms. The psychedelic effect is most noticeable with the eyes closed. Patterns, colours and shapes can start to dance on the inside of your eyes. For this reason, Mexican tarragon is effective in helping to stimulate lucid dreaming.
Combining with Mexican Tarragon
In Mexico, Mexican tarragon was used by shamans to assist in the visions derived from peyote cacti. A combination with cannabis is also not a bad idea because it’s said that Mexican tarragon increases the feeling of euphoria.
Dosage and Use:
Just like it’s culinary namesake, you can mix Mexican tarragon in with your food, or you can brew tea with it. A tablespoonful steeped in a mug of hot water ought to be enough. Sieve the water before drinking it.
Mexican tarragon works really well in a vaporizer at a temperature between 150 and 175ºC.
