Durban Poison is a pure sativa from South Africa. It’s named after the South African port of Durban. This magnificent weed plant is renowned around the world for its sweet smell and energy-boosting, uplifting effects which are in part due to the above-average THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin) percentage.
Characteristics of Durban Poison:
- Fairly long-lasting, very energising high for productivity and euphoric feelings
- Landrace, pure sativa (Durban Poison)
- Suitable for outdoors, indoors, for beginners, soilless and advanced cultivation!
- THC percentage all the way up to 26% (under ideal conditions)
- High yield, whether grown indoors or outdoors
- 5 feminised seeds
- Rich in THCV
Taste and Effects
This sativa, which has a delicious taste of aniseed, liquorice and lemon, is right both for those with a sweet tooth and for connoisseurs. With its hint of cloves, the harvest from Durban Poison is anything but ‘poisonous’. Perhaps the name choice was a bit unfortunate. Durban Poison is one of the ‘parents’ of several highly popular, sweet weed varieties on the market. There’s Girl Scout Cookies, Gelato and Sherbert to name but a few.
All three of these weeds produce comparable effects as well. Again, the reason for that is Durban Poison’s great high-making buds. The feeling acts mainly in the head (powerful high) and develops after an hour or so into a mellow feeling in the body (mildly stoned). You feel good, relieved of stress and quite clear. The latter feeling is mainly due to the respectable THCV percentage in this strain.
But for that you need to crank up the temperature in your vaporizer to a good 220° C. Here’s our advice for optimal enjoyment of Durban Poison: to start with set your vaporizer to 165-170° C and only at the end of the session to 220° C. THCV can help to postpone the munchies and make the high euphoric for longer.
Growth and Yield
Durban Poison is simple to cultivate and does very well both indoors and outdoors. During the growth phase, Durban Poison produces thick buds with exceedingly large resin glands (trichomes). This results in a lot of THC (between 15 and 26%, depending on the growing conditions)
With a certain amount of experience, you can get a yield of 650 grammes per square metre indoors. Its life cycle from seed to harvest lasts 13-15 weeks which can in some cases stretch out to 16 weeks. Indoors it stays fairly small but shows its true nature outdoors. In the full sun it can get up to 4 metres (!) in height. 550 grammes per plant is well possible.
Tip: do not overfeed it during the growing phase. Brown, dessicated leaves are an indicator of overfeeding. As soon as you see that, you should reduce the feed but keep giving it regularly.
