Chacruna is the common name of Psychotria viridis, a DMT-containing plant from the Amazon rainforest. As its Latin name (Psychotria) suggests, the plant is known for its psychotropic effects. Chacruna is one of the two most commonly used ingredients in the traditional ayahuasca brew. Because of legislation we are not allowed to tell you anything more about the preparation of ayahuasca. The ingredients are legally available, but the healing brew from the Amazon is not.
- Do not underestimate the effects of ayahuasca!
- Does not work without an MAO-inhibitor when consumed
- Causes vivid visions as a constituent of ayahuasca
- Ayahuasca can cause diarrhea and vomiting
Traditional Ingredient of Ayahuasca
The leaves of chacruna are used by Amazonian shamans in the now fairly well-known trip cocktail ayahuasca.
Effects of Ayahuasca with Chacruna
For chacruna to work, you need another ingredient. The ingredients of chacruna are not active because they are directly broken down by our bodies. We cannot advise you on the correct proportions of the ingredients, but we can inform you about the effects of ayahuasca.
An ayahuasca trip can last a long time (4-12 hours). The duration depends on the amount and potency of the brew you drink. Such a trip is not without its discomforts though. Nausea and vomiting is quite common before the trip begins. It takes between 20-60 minutes before the first symptoms begin.
It starts during or shortly after vomiting with a strong feeling of joy, euphoria, love and empathy followed by auditory hallucinations. Some say ayahuasca actually announces itself audibly. Then shapes and colors begin to appear in the periphery of your field of vision that slowly begin to demand more a more attention. The ego is irrelevant and you have the idea of being connected to the universe.
Although some trippers tell of undergoing a life-changing experience during an ayahuasca session, others say that such an experience is incredibly frightening and swear to never do it again. Don't expect to be in control with ayahuasca, because you are completely out of control. You will have to surrender to the journey and the overwhelming feelings, emotions and hallucinations that come with it.
DMT
This plant contains DMT (N,N-dimethyltryptamine) as its active ingredient. DMT is a naturally occurring substance that can also be found in our own bodies. DMT is not active after oral ingestion because it is immediately broken down by enzymes in the liver. (Synthesized) pure DMT is also smoked to experience a short (20 minutes) but very intense trip. DMT is illegal in many countries. Plants that contain relatively large amounts of DMT, such as chacruna however, are often legal. These plants cannot cause a trip by themselves - you need a so-called MAO-inhibitor for that. Often this is another plant or plant extract that ensures that DMT is not directly broken down, so you will experience psychoactive effects.
Use
Unfortunately we are not allowed to tell you how to make ayahausca. This is because it is not legal to do so. You will have to turn to user experiences that you can find elsewhere on the internet. But beware, ayahuasca is definitely not like magic mushrooms. It takes much longer and vomiting and uncontrolled diarrhea are the norm rather than the exception. We also think it's very important to advise you on the setting - don't use psyschedelic natural products at a crowded party, on the street or with people you don't trust. Make sure a sober tripsitter is present with you.
