Snorting drugs is a bad habit for some. For others it can be an outlet or a moment to let loose. But however you look at it, it is certainly not advisable. Especially when it comes to snorting speed, ketamine or coke. Looking for an alternative to these illegal substances? Try snorting kanna. Read more about the effects and experiences here.
In this blog we talk about hard drugs. First of all, Dutch-Headshop strongly discourages the use of these illegal substances. We only want to inform our readers about these drugs in reference to kanna. Kanna is a herb that originates from South Africa. This smartdrug is safe and legal.
Why snort Drugs?
People use drugs for different reasons. Because they need energy for a party, want to completely relax, just want to have a good time or because they need it and are addicted. But why do people snort drugs? First of all because of the simple fact that some drugs are traditionally "supposed" to be snorted. Take for example yopo, ketamine, cocaine and speed. These types of drugs could be swallowed, chewed, smoked or even injected. However, the effect is different than when it is snorted and especially when it is injected there is a greater chance of addiction. Snorting is often more practical than oral use. Because it is traditionally used the way it is, it is considered normal.
Drug snorting (nasal use) is not only more practical with some types of drugs. The effects usually occur more quickly than when ingested, swallowed or drunk. This is because it enters the blood through the nasal mucosa and then travels through the heart and lungs to the brain. Depending on the drug, the effects are usually felt immediately or within minutes. When smoking or injecting, the effects are felt after only 10 to 30 seconds. However, smoking can interfere with the effect of the drug. Most people do not want to inject for a number of reasons.
A person may become used to or addicted to the way they use the drug, in addition to the drug itself. For example, if someone stops smoking, cravings for nicotine may go away over time, but inhaling smoke or vapor does not. The same goes for drug snorting. For example, if a user has been cut off from cocaine, the urge to snort something may still remain. In such cases, snorting kanna is a viable alternative.
Snorting Kanna: The Effects
Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) is a plant. The leaves and roots of the plant have been used for centuries by indigenous peoples in South Africa. You can use Kanna in several ways. You can chew it, smoke it, vaporize it or snort it. Sometimes it is also used to make tea. Traditionally it is chewed. That is why it is also known as kougoed in Afrikaans. Nowadays it is snorted more and more often. Kanna is legal in most European countries and is sold in smartshops.
Kanna Effects
It is an extraordinary herb. In fact, the effects of kanna vary widely. At low doses, it can improve your mood and reduce anxiety and stress. At higher doses, the smartdrug turns into a euphoric stimulant. This is because kanna inhibits the reabsorption of serotonin. Therefore, for a short time there is more serotonin in your system and you experience relaxed and blissful feelings. The empathogenic effect creates a feeling of connection and a strong sense of empathy. It has a stimulating effect at first and a relaxing effect over time. Other kanna effects include suppressing a feeling of hunger and a slight increase in libido.
Dosage for snorting Kanna
So the effects of kanna depend very much on the dosage you take. If you choose to snort kanna (leaves or powder), you can take the following dosage.
- 50 mg is a mild dosis
- 50 to 100 mg is an average dosis
- 250 mg is a high dosis
- 500 mg is a powerful, heroic dosis
Note: kanna is an SSRI. Do not combine with other SSRIs or MOA inhibitors.
Kanna Extract
If you're curious about the effects of kanna, it's best to start with regular leaves or powder. However, do you want to experience a strong effect that comes close to snorting other drugs? Then it's best to choose a kanna extract. These products are many times stronger. There are different extracts available. From 10x as strong to 40x as strong. Some kanna extracts, such as Kanna Extract ET2 [Sceletium tortuosum] (Indian Spirit) 1 grams, are specifically designed for snorting.

Kanna as an Alternative to snorting cocaine
Now to answer the key question: is snorting kanna a worthy and sensible alternative to cocaine or other drugs? To answer that, we compare the effects of different drugs to those of kanna. Further on you can read how users have experienced snorting.
Kanna as an Alternative to Cocaine
Cocaine gives you more energy and wakes you up. Inhibitions are removed and you gain more self-confidence. You can socialize better, which means thinking and talking faster and easier than usual. Snorting Coke has a euphoric and stimulating effect. It can also make you restless and aggressive. Especially at high doses or in combination with other drugs.
Although its effects in the body may be different, kanna is similar to cocaine in some ways. It provides euphoric and stimulating feelings. Similar to coke, it can improve mood and remove inhibitions, allowing you to socialize better. Similar to coke, it can provide a sense of belonging. The difference is particularly noticeable when you take a high dose of kanna. Then the effects of kanna become more dreamy and you can feel relaxed. It is certainly not energetic. This may make kanna less suitable if you want to stay up all night.
The effects of both coke and kanna come on a few minutes after use. The effects of both drugs last for about 30 to 60 minutes. If you want to snort it as an alternative to cocaine, we recommend that you buy a kanna extract. This is more similar to cocaine than leaf or powder.
Kanna vs Speed
Speed has a very uplifting effect, increases your concentration and suppresses fatigue. Kanna is much more dreamy and does have a stimulating effect, but does not provide the amount of energy that speed does. Nevertheless, some users find kanna similar to a light form of speed. Probably because of the stimulating effects.
Ketamine vs Kanna
Ketamine, similar to kanna, has a dreamy effect. However, ketamine does not have a stimulating or euphoric effect at all. Ketamine makes you feel dehydrated. You experience dissociative hallucinations. This means that you seem to view the world from a distance but don't participate in it. You may feel as if you are stepping out of your body or as if you no longer have feeling in your arms or legs. This is why ketamine used to be widely used on the operating table. Nowadays, less and less because there are better alternatives without side effects. However, ketamine is still commonly used by veterinarians. You don't get hallucinations or other dissociative effects from kanna. Unlike ketamine, it is not as if you suddenly cannot feel your arm or leg anymore. In higher doses it does give a relaxed feeling. That makes it ideal for hanging out on the couch or relaxing, but you will still feel everything.
Ecstasy and Adderall
Ecstasy briefly gives you more serotonin. To that extent there are similarities, but kanna won't give you more of this neurotransmitter. It just doesn't get eliminated and therefore piles up for a while. This gives you similar happy and loving feelings. Furthermore, kanna is often compared on the internet to Adderall. That is a drug that is sometimes abused as a drug due to its speed-like properties.
Let it be noted that using kanna is much less harmful to your health than some of the drugs we mentioned before. Kanna is natural and there are few known health risks. Drugs such as cocaine, speed and ketamine are highly addictive (so is Adderall by the way)! There are also many health risks associated with it. In that regard, snorting Kanna is a reasonable alternative to cocaine or other drugs that you use nasally.
Snorting Kanna: Experiences
We asked several users about their experiences with snorting kanna. We also asked if they think you can compare kanna to other snortable drugs such as coke and speed.
Turhan: "I think you can definitely compare snorting kanna with coke. I regularly use an extract before I go to a party or when we are sitting at home with friends. Just like with cocaine, I'm much looser in my interaction. I start talking to people more quickly and I feel more at ease. I do notice that I can't keep going for long with kanna. That is different with coke. Snorting it is quite difficult. The first few times I found it very disgusting. It burned in my nose and that feeling lasted for a while. But when I snorted cocaine for the first time, that feeling was also there.”
Anouk: “I wouldn't be so quick to compare kanna to other drugs except Adderall. I tried that once and it was definitely comparable. Coke has a completely different effect on me. I feel very euphoric and the more I use, the more I start to look like a bouncing ball. That doesn't mean I don't like snorting kanna. The feeling in the nose is honestly not that nice. But the mellow high you get from it totally suits me. I use it sometimes on an after party or when we're doing a movie night with friends. For sex, it's also recommended. I wouldn't call it an alternative for another drug, but it is very nice.”
Tim: “I snorted coke for many years. At one point it became problematic and I had to stop. Fortunately, I was able to quit in one go. But on a night off, the urge to snort something remained. A friend of mine told me that he sometimes snorted kanna. I first tried normal powder and didn't feel much of it. Then I tried a kanna extract 40x and that worked well. I think the effect is definitely different from cocaine. I missed the energy boost, but felt unbeatable. The Tony Montana feeling was present and I like that when I go out. For me it is a great alternative to snorting other drugs. Just for the feeling in the nose. Everyone thinks it's disgusting, but I don't think that's so bad.”
