Moonrock, Sunrock and Ice rock, better known as the caviar of the cannabis world. We're not talking about rocks flying around in space, but extremely potent cannabis buds that offer you a one-way ticket on a trip through the solar system.
Moonrocks, Sunrocks and Ice Rocks - that's really getting stoned!
What is a Moonrock?
A Moonrock is a cannabis bud to which a large amount of concentrate or extract has been added. Think of cannabis or hash oil or wax, then this sticky cocktail is rolled through the kief (the trichomes), and voila you have a Moonrock made. Moonrocks contain about 30- to 50% THC. Often a Moonrock is made with a strong oil and a hefty layer of THC crystals. This composition therefore creates the appearance strongly reminiscent of some kind of moonrock.
Sunrock
If for some reason you find the Moonrock not strong enough, a Sunrock is the solution for you! A Sunrock is the strongest weed experience you can find while still calling it weed. An unbeatable high comparable to only the most potent dabs. The difference between a Moon- and Sunrock is that only the highest quality cannabis, concentrates and THC crystals are chosen for Sunrocks. Sunrocks have a THC percentage of 50- to as much as 80%. A Sunrock often has a visible layer of wax or shatter which gives the cannabis bud the yellow glow from which it gets its name.
Ice Rock
Finally, there is also the Ice Rock, perhaps you already have an idea what that might still be. Had you guessed on CBD? Then you are correct. An Ice Rock is indeed a CBD-rich cannabis bud. These buds packed with CBD contain little or no THC. An Ice Rock usually contains minimum 70% CBD. After harvesting, the buds are dipped in a concentrated CBD oil and then generously coated with isolated CBD crystals. This process makes the Ice Rock look like a kind of white, powdery pebble, hence the name Ice Rock. Unlike a typical cannabis bud, an Ice Rock often has a light and fresh smell. It is said to be reminiscent of the snow-covered peak of a mountain.
Moonrocks smoking experience
Do you dare to smoke Moonrocks? Because we want you to enjoy this experience to the fullest, we've listed a few tips that we hope you can keep in mind while your CB-1 receptors get wind of the experience.
Prepare well for Moonrocks smoking
- Drink such as a bottle of water or fruit juice
- Something to munch on as soon as you get the munchies
- CBD can make a "too intense THC trip" feel a bit milder
Finally, a good set and setting are definitely recommended with this intense form of cannabis. Especially make sure you are in a safe and familiar environment with acquaintances, such as close friends. It helps if someone is there who knows what it is like to be stoned out of your mind and can support you.
Attention Moonrocks, Sunrocks & Ice Rocks
These forms of cannabis caviar are super strong and that means only one thing: extremely sticky fingers! So don't put these sticky stones in your grinder or vaporizer, because then you run the risk of not being able to get them out. As a substitute for a grinder, we recommend using scissors. Also, cleaning cloths preferably with isopropyl alcohol are highly recommended. Otherwise you won't be able to move your scissors either.
Moon- and Sunrock smoking
Start carefully. In other words, don't put a whole Moonrock in your bong right away. Small baby steps are definitely recommended here. For example, it's a smart idea to mix your regular weed with your Moon/ Sunrock, that way you can enjoy both for longer and you reduce the chances of an overly intense trip.
Using Ice Rock
Ice Rocks contain little or no THC, but instead are packed with CBD. So these white rocks are more suitable for people who use CBD for various ailments, rather than a heavy high. That's also why we don't recommend using Ice Rock in the same way as Moon- or Sunrocks. A better idea is to dissolve the Ice Rock with something oily such as a little butter in a steaming cup of herbal tea, also can make it into oil or incorporate it into something edible such as butter or a slice of cake.
Buy Moonrocks
Buying Moonrocks, Sunrocks or Ice Rocks is not something we recommend. First of all, these spatial cannabis rocks are very hard to find and only available in a few coffeeshops in the Netherlands. In addition, as with the legality of cannabis, there is a gray area. In the Netherlands, for example, most concentrates and extracts such as cannabis and hash oil and wax are not legal, but weed, hash and kief (trichomes) are.
How much do Moonrocks cost?
In the United States, where all forms of cannabis caviar are allowed to be sold legally (varying by state), a Moonrock costs an average of $25 (23 euros) per gram. A Sunrock easily costs $36 (33 euros) per gram. Ice Rocks are somewhat cheaper again with an average price of $17 (15 euros) per gram. It's important to note that prices can vary dramatically from one outlet to another, and with it the quality of the ingredients. Just more reason to get started yourself. Read on and find out how to make Moonrocks at home.
Make your own Moonrocks
Making your own Moonrocks at home is certainly possible, however, that does involve a shopping list. Fortunately, you are already on the website where you can find everything you need. First, of course, you need weed and preferably a strain with the most THC. In the coffee shop you are never sure what you are buying, so go grow your own! Start by looking in our cannabis seeds category with the strongest cannabis strains. To give you a step in the right direction here are a few suggestions from us:
- OG Kush: a potent cannabis strain with a fresh and complex flavor profile.
- Girl Scout Cookies: one of the strongest cannabis strains with a measured THC percentage of up to 28%.
- Do Si Dos: award-winning cannabis strain with not only a mega yield, but also the potential to produce weed that contains as much as 30% THC.
In the case of Ice Rocks, CBD-rich Critical Mass is an excellent choice!
Focusing on concentrates for a moment
The next step is to add THC-rich cannabis extracts. There are a lot of different ways to extract cannabis. Basically, there are no wrong options. Any form of cannabis concentrate is allowed. Of course, each extract does have differences in appearance, strength and difficulty. Dutch-Headshop has everything you need to make rosin, BHO, marijuana oil, wax and even more extracts. Now if that whole world of concentrates is completely new to you, follow our masterclass!
Kief: a collection of pure trichomes
Kief is another name for a concentrated mass of trichomes. Most blowers who use a multi-piece grinder to grind their weed have come across kief. Don't you have a grinder full of kief or have you just smoked your stash? Another efficient way to collect lots of kief quickly is with a pollen strainer box.
Weed top with a powerful, sticky layer of concentrate? Check! Then it's time for the final step of creating cannabis caviar. The only thing left to do is to completely coat the cannabis with a thick layer of THC crystals (we recommend using tweezers to do this). Let your creation dry a little more and that's it: 3, 2, 1, Lift off!
Frequently asked questions about Moon-, Sun- & Ice Rocks
- How long do you feel high after using Moon- or Sunrocks? That your socks will be blown off is virtually guaranteed. Exactly how long you'll be high depends mostly on your tolerance. We recommend you clear your schedule. It is not unheard of to still feel the effects of the Moon- or Sunrock a day later; even after sleeping.
- What is really the difference between a Moon- and Sunrock? We understand the confusion. There is no precise definition. However, many enthusiasts do say that technically a Sunrock must have ingredients that are all not only top quality, but also made from the same strain of cannabis. So no OG Kush top with oil made from White Widow, for example.
