Curing weed in a Weckpot with Boveda
If you want to cure weed, you need two things: an airtight jar and a humidifier.
Most people cure weed in a weckpot. These are glass jars that you can seal hermetically. They are available here in different sizes. Make sure you fill the jar only to about 75%. You need the remaining space for the process to run smoothly. In a 1 liter weckpot fits about 35 to 40 grams of weed.
A humidity regulator is a bag that you place in the weckpot to keep the humidity level up. Most people cure weed with Boveda. The Boveda bags for 62% humidity are suitable for curing weed. There are different sizes.
- Do you have less than 14 grams of weed to cure? Then a 4 gram bag is sufficient.
- Between 14 and 28 grams? Choose an 8-gram bag.
- For quantities up to 454 grams, grab the largest Boveda of 67 grams.
So the humidity here is a little too high. You can level it up with a Boveda humidity regulator.
How to cure weed?
Dry weed, a weckpot and a humidity regulator at home? Then you can start curing. Go through the following steps:
- Take an airtight (weck)pot and fill it 75% full of weed. Do not fill it completely.
- Store the jar at a temperature of 18 °C to 21 °C. Important: keep the jar in the dark. Light breaks down active substances such as THC.
- Put a bag of Boveda in the jar and seal it.
- We recommend opening the jar every day for fresh air. Check the weed for mold or other nastiness. Do you smell a musty smell when you open the jar? Then the weed is probably not dry enough yet.
- Check the Boveda moisture regulator every few days. The bag indicates when it needs replacing.
- Redistribute the weed once every few days. You can do this by taking all the weed out of the pot and putting it back in. This benefits the weed curing process. The curing process is faster, more even and better.
As you can see, curing weed is not difficult at all. It is very important to keep a close eye on everything to avoid disappointment. Does everything go moldy? Then you can throw it all away! Not sure about what you're doing? Buy a Thermo & Hygrometer.
How long do I need to cure weed
Now that you know how it works, all that remains is the question, "How long should I cure weed?" There is no set rule for that. We recommend letting the weed cure for at least 2 to 3 weeks. After that you will already notice the difference. For optimal quality it is best to let it cure for 2 months. Then taste, smell and effect are at their best. There are growers who cure their weed even longer. You can do this too, as long as you keep a close eye on the conditions (temperature, darkness and humidity).
